The Department of English at Kathua Campus, University of Jammu successfully hosted a one-day workshop titled "Essentials of Writing for Media" aimed at enhancing students' writing skills for traditional as well as modern media platforms. The event, held on February 28, 2025 brought together students and faculty members to discuss the importance of clear, impactful, and engaging media writing. The workshop featured two distinguished guest speakers: Prof. Garima Gupta, Head, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu and Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai, Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu.

Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai shared insights on the fundamental skills needed for writing compelling news stories, press releases, and feature articles and provided practical advice on writing for diverse audiences and adapting content for various media outlets. He emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation in reading as a key element in becoming a successful media writer.

Prof. Garima Gupta emphasized the critical importance of content creation in today’s media landscape. She provided students with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of scriptwriting and screenplay writing, while also familiarizing them with various software tools that can aid in the writing process.

Additionally, the workshop offered participants a comprehensive understanding of the media industry's demands, providing them with valuable techniques for writing that resonates with both traditional and digital audiences. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, discuss real-world examples, and receive constructive feedback on their writing samples. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session where participants asked the guest speakers questions related to career prospects, writing challenges, and the future of media writing. The event was widely appreciated for its relevance, depth, and practical approach to writing in the fast-paced media world.
