Jammu University lifted Sabre Men Gold Medal in All India Inter University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25 held today during Valedictory Function.
The Overall Championship trophy in Fencing (Men &Women) was clinched by G.N.D.U Amritsar. The Runner-up Overall Trophy was bagged by Guru Kashi Talwandi University, Bathinda whereas University of Jammu, got Second Runner-up Overall Trophy respectively.
The winner of Overall Championship (Men) was won by G.N.D.U Amritsar. The Runner-up Men Trophy was bagged by University of Jammu whereas C.U Mohali and Guru Kashi Uni. Bathinda were joint winner for Second Runner-up.
The winner of Overall Championship (Women) was won by G.N.D.U Amritsar. The Runner-up Women Trophy was bagged by Guru Kashi Uni. Bathinda whereas P.U Chandigarh got Second Runner-up.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Esteemed Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory-cum-Prize Distribution Function of the Championship, with an august gathering that included Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean of Research Studies; Prof. Parkash C. Anthal, Dean of Students Welfare; Sh. Rashid Ahmed Chowdhary, Competition Director; and Adv. Supriya Sharma, a former fencer. The event was attended by a large number of dignitaries, players, officials from participating universities, university employees, students, and members of the civil society.
Prof. Umesh Rai congratulated the organizers for hosting this sports event, which offers students from various universities a platform not only to showcase their sports talent but also to foster camaraderie and connection among themselves. He praised the extensive participation of players and the commitment of officials accompanying university teams. Additionally, he highlighted the University of Jammu’s notable achievements in sports and adventure activities, underscoring its dedication to promoting sports culture.
During the gathering, Prof. Rai conveyed a message from Sh. Satish Sharma, the (Hon’ble Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, ARI & Training, Government of J&K). Minister Sharma expressed his regrets for not being able to attend the function due to a flight cancellation. He announced that free assistance would be provided to players and officials from various universities to experience "Jammu and Kashmir Darshan."
Additionally, a bus would be handed over to the Directorate for smooth assistance of players in future. He also discussed with the Vice Chancellor that Ministry of IT will provide all out support in making University of Jammu a world class IT hub. He also promised that the Ministry of Youth Services and Sports, Government of J&K, will provide financial assistance to renovate and make the State of the Art multipurpose Gymnasium Hall of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education which will cater the needs of the sports fraternity. The aim is to upgrade it to meet international standards, making it suitable for hosting competitions and events at both the national and international levels.
Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal report of the said Championship in which he mentioned that the Association of Indian Universities has entrusted with the responsibility to University of Jammu, for hosting the All India Inter University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25 w.e.f. 6th to 10th November, 2024 in which around 1200 players from 108 teams came from the various Universities across the Nation in men & women section participated.
The proceeding of the function was carried by Ms. Vandana Sharma, Lecturer DSPE where as the formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Komal Nagar, I/c Assistant Director, DSPE.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Sh. Vimal Kishore, Asstt. Prof. DSPE.
Others present there were Sh. Ravish Vaid, Sh. Gagan Kumar, Sh. Vikas Karlopia, Sh. Padam Dev Singh, Sh. Jai Bharat, Sh. Ashok Singh Bali, S. Harinderpal Singh, S. Inderjeet Singh, Sh. Rishiv Sharma, Ms. Richa Mandla, Mr. Manjeet Kotwal and officials of the participating teams.
