The Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, in collaboration with INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, successfully organized a one-day awareness programme on ORCID and INFLIBNET Services for scholarly communities. The programme was attended by about 135 participants viz - Faculty Members, Research Scholars, and Library Professionals from various Universities, Colleges and Research Institutions of J&K. The Program was organized under the supervision of Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Head, Department of Library and Information Science.
The inaugural session was presided by the Chief Guest of the day, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu and Prof R. L. Raina, Vice-chancellor, Jaipur National University, Jaipur, Rajasthan
delivered the inaugural address where the relevance of visibility and credibility of research output through the usage of various tools and services was discussed. Welcome address was given by Prof. Sangita Gupta. She emphasized the importance of ORCID and INFLIBNET services in promoting research and academic excellence. The programme was anchored by the research scholars Miss Pooja Rana and Mr Kumar Chitraketu. The technical sessions featured insightful presentations by Dr. Kannan P and Dr. Abhishek Kumar on ORCID, Shodhchakra, IRINS and various other INFLIBNET services. The sessions aimed to create awareness among researchers, scholars, and librarians about the benefits and applications of these services. In the valedictory session Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development, was the Chief Guest. Prof Sangita Gupta, Head, DLIS welcomed the chief guest and briefed about the workshop .The programme concluded with a feedback and vote of thanks by Mr. Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha.The session was anchored by Dr Reenu Arti Thakur, Lecturer in the Department.
Department of Library and Information Science celebrated Teachers' Day on 5th of September, 2024. All the Faculty Members, Scholars and Students participated in the celebrations.
Directorate of Tourism, TRC, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu, organised a bird watching and Photography competition for the Students of University of Jammu, on 2nd February, 2024 at Gharana Wetland, Ranbir Singh Pura, Jammu. Our students also participated in this event.

Prof. Sumeer Gul,Head, DLIS, University of Kashmir, delivered an enlightening lecture on the "Information Retrieval: Changing Trends”. The lecture was held in DLIS, University of Jammu on 7th October 2024 Emphasizing the pivotal role of Information Retrieval and how there is a shift in the retrieval of information in this age of ICT. He laid particular emphasis on adapting to research advancements and information needs. LECTURE ON ONLINE TOOLS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF ACADEMIA
Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu organized a lecture on Online tools for enhancement of Academia and Research with special focus on the formulation of a research proposal (synopsis) on 29th of February, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Department of Library and Information Science.
The lecture began with the welcome address of Professor Sangita Gupta, Dean ,Faculty of Social Science and Head, DLIS, University of Jammu where she welcomed Prof. Sumeer Gul. This insightful session led by esteemed resource person, Prof. Sumeer Gul, a renowned expert and Professor of DLIS University of Kashmir brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the discussion.
The lecture aimed at providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the various online tools available for academia and research, and how these tools can be effectively utilized to enhance the quality and efficiency of research endeavors. Moreover, the session delved into the crucial process of formulating a research proposal, focusing on creating concise and impactful synopses that effectively communicate the research objectives, methodology, and significance.
Additionally, attendees gained valuable insights into best practices for structuring and presenting a research proposal, drawing from Prof. Gul's extensive expertise in the field. The Lecture was delivered by Ms. Saloni Priya, Founder and Director Umeed Counselling and Consulting services and a distinguished expert in the field of mental health and well-being. Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, Jammu marked a momentous occasion on August 16, 2024, by celebrating Librarians' Day with great enthusiasm and reverence. Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs graced the occasion by her presence as chief guest. A sapling was planted by revered chief guest and Head of the Department in the presence of other faculty members. Prof. Anju Bhasin delivered an insightful lecture about the role of librarians in disseminating right information to the right user in the best possible way in this digital era. Prof. Sangita Gupta Head of the Department and Dean Social Sciences discussed about the relevance of Prof. S.R. Ranganathan’s Philosophy (a pioneer in the field of library science) in modern age. Dr. Pramod K Singh read the Citation of Prof. Anju Bhasin.
Celeberations started with the welcome address by Prof. Sangita Gupta. The whole program was conducted by the students of M.LIB.I.Sc. Ms Amber Afreen and Mr.Vishal Roudhan. Mr. Koushal from B.Lib.I.Sc shared his thoughts about this profession. Ms. Amber Afreen recited a poem. Shivani, Anjali and Neha displayed their posters for Librarian’s Day. Dr. Anuradha Seth, an aluminus of the department shared her experiences with the audience. Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu celebrated Librrarian’s Day. The Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Jammu marked a momentous occasion on August 25, 2023, by celebrating Librarians' Day with great enthusiasm and reverence. The celebration included insightful lectures, a distinguished chief guest and inspirational speeches. The highlight of the event was the enlightening lecture delivered by the Head of the Department Prof Sangita Gupta who eloquently discussed the legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, a pioneer in the field of library science. . The event was graced by the presence of Professor Rahul Gupta, Registrar University of Jammu. Professor Gupta, the esteemed chief guest of the event, captivated the audience with his profound insights into the evolving role of librarians in the digital era. His lecture was a thought-provoking exploration of the challenges and opportunities that librarians face in today's information-rich society. Assistant Professor Ashwin Kushwaha also shared his thoughts, emphasizing the pivotal role librarians play in fostering a culture of curiosity and lifelong learning.

M.Lib.I.Sc. students, Department of Library and Information science, University of Jammu, visited State Public Library, Jodhpur on 21-08-2023 and made well versed with the functioning of the various sections of the Library. the Academic tour was organised under the leadership of Dr. P.K. Singh and Dr. Reenu Arti Thakur, the Faculty members of the Department.
Professor Sangita Gupta (Head of the Department and Dean Social Sciences) delivered Inaugural address in two days National Conference NCRTHE 2023 (10-11 August, 2023), under project XVII RUSA2.0 programme organised by the Department of Library & Information Science, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
Department of Library and information Science, University of Jammu has initiated and accepted to conduct Information Literacy Awareness. programme in series at different colleges of Jammu.
Our first such programme was conducted in Cluster University of Jammu. Congratulations to Dr Anuradha Seth , Librarian ,Govt College for Education, Jammu and Prof Mohammad Zuber ,Dean Faculty of Education,Cluster University for taking initiative.
Hopefully we will be conducting a series of programmes in future also as we have been receiving requests from different colleges.
A picnic to Patnitop was organised by the Department on 17th of May, 2024 for the students of B.Lib.i.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. Faculty Members, Staff Members and Scholars also accompanied them.
Department organised a picnic to Mansar, on 29th of May, 2023 for the students of B.LIB.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. from the current batch. Faculty members, staff and scholars also accompanied them.
At the venue, the students were amazed to see different rides as they entered . The most enjoyable time was in the play area with swings, slides, and merry-go-round.
it was although tiring yet a fun packed day. The group photograph time motivated students to pose in style for the click.
The whole experience was worth remembering.
The Department organized 2nd Alumni Meet in collaboration with UJAA on 13th May, 2023 to reunite the alumni and let them remember their good old memories of the Department. The program was organized at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium and it was well decorated with posters and enthusiastic ambience was created with the theme of REUNION. The event started with a welcome note from Professor Sangita Gupta, Head of DLIS and Dean,Social Sciences where she welcomed the entire invited guests to the programme. Prof. Rajnikant, (DRS) and Prof. Prakash C Anthal, (DSW), addressed the audience and inspired them and guided them towards their role as an alumni. Prof Rajnikant also highlighted the importance of this day from the perspectives of the success celebration. Dr Parkash told the audience to believe in themselves. The invited guests and alumni also shared their ideas, experiences, and feedback. The whole session was moderated by Ms. Diksha Sharma, and Pooja Rana, Research Scholars DLIS. Vote of thanks was extended by Mr Ashwin K Kushwaha. The program ended up with beautiful cultural items. More then 100 Alumni/Assistant Professors, Faculty members and Scholars attended this event. The programmes proved to be very inspirational and worth remembering.
The Department celebrated World Book and Copyright day on 24th April, 2023 to develop the love for reading among the young minds. The department was decorated with posters inspired by books and famous quotes of the authors. The event started with the welcome note of Professor Sangita Gupta, Head of DLIS where she welcomed the entire invited guest to the programme. She addressed the audience and inspired them to become readers and creative thinkers. She also highlighted the importance of this day from the perspectives of the librarians. The invited guest and alumni also shared their ideas and experience of the books and the importance of books in transforming lives. The whole session was moderated by Ms. Diksha Sharma, Research Scholar. Around 50 Alumni/Assistant Professors, Faculty members and Scholars attended this event. The programme proved to be very informative and inspirational.
An Extension Lecture was organized by the Department on 10th of April, 2023 on the topic "Plagiarism and Academic Integrity". Dr. Satish Kumar Malik, Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana was the resource person.

Under "Ranganathan Lecture Series" program in Hybrid mode, Its First Lecture on "Intellectual Property Rights: Issues and Concerns" was held on 15th of Dec. 2022 in which 70 participants attended the lecture. Prof. Jagtar Singh, Head of DLIS and University Librarian, Guru Kashi University , Talwandi Sabo, District Bhatinda, Punjab was the resource person who delivered the talk through an online platform.

Department as a part of Ranganathan Lecture Series organized its second lecture on “Shodh Chakra: A Gateway to researchers for Resources” in the department on 10/02/2023. Professor Dinesh K Gupta, DLIS University of Haryana was the Resources person who delivered the talk.
The Department as a part of the Ranganathan lecture series organized a lecture on “Emerging Trends & Technologies in Library and Information Services” in offline mode on 26th April, 2023. Dr. Nabi Hasan, Librarian & Head Central Library, IIT Delhi was the resource person who delivered the talk to impart knowledge regarding emerging trends in the services of libraries. The program started with a welcome address by Professor Sangita Gupta, Head of the department, where she introduced the key speaker Dr. Nabi Hasan by highlighting his major accomplishments and introduced the key idea behind the conduct of such events in the department. Dr. Hasan introduced various changes that libraries are facing due to impact of ICT, changing patrons needs, and the use of disruptive technologies that are resulting in transition from Print to Digital. As a remedial plan for all these issues, Dr. Hasan explained various emerging technologies in Library and Information Services like Library Automation, IRs, Virtual/Digital Reference services, Web 2.0 and 3.0 based services and so on. The programme was attended by the teachers, alumni/library professionals, students and research scholars of the department. The programme proved to be informative, and helpful in keeping abreast of with new trends and technologies arising in libraries in order to enhance professional competence and skills and to engage in collaborative team-work. The programme received a lot of appreciation for the successful completion of the third lecture of the series from the faculty members, library professionals and the scholars.

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Swain, Professor and Former Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak was the resource person who delivered the talk to impart knowledge upon the topic.. The program started with a welcome address by Dr. Pramod K Singh, Senior Assistant Professor of the Department, where he introduced the key speaker Dr. Nirmal Kumar Swain by highlighting his major accomplishments and introduced the key idea behind the conduct of such events in the department. The programme was attended by the teachers, students and research scholars of the department. The programme received a lot of appreciation for the successful completion of the fourth lecture of the series from the faculty members, library professionals and the scholars
Dr. Jivesh Bansal from Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered an enlightening lecture on the "RFID Technology in Libraries." in Department of Lib and Inf Sc. Emphasizing the pivotal role of RFID technologies in the Library, Dr. Jivesh highlighted the implementation of RFID Technology in the Panjab University library. In addition, how their library has evolved through various phases, adapting to technological advancements and societal changes. Dr. Jivesh made students aware of the functions and functionality of RFID Technology and how this technology is improving the efficiency of library professionals with library operations.
Prof. Sangita Gupta Head and Dean expressed her appreciation for Dr. Jivesh’s insightful presentation, noting its relevance in understanding the RFID technology in libraries. The lecture was attended by faculty members (Dr. Meghna Dhar, Dr. Pramod Kumar Singh, and Dr. Reenu Arti Thakur), scholars, and students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Meghna Dhar.

A five days Webinar Series on Role of Libraries and LIS Professionals during Pandemic Period (June03,2020-June 07,2020) was organised by Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu in collaboration with Central Library, IIT Jammu, and KNIMBUS.
Prof. Sangita Gupta welcomed the guests and gave an outline of five days webinar series.
Webinar was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu Prof. Manoj Dhar. Prof. Naresh Padha was the chief guest in the Valedictory session.

Prof. Roshan Lal Raina, VC JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur, Delivered the keynote address on the topic,"Emerging Challenges in Academic Librarianship un the current scenario."
On the second day Prof. Jaideep Sharma from School of Social Sciences, IGNOU, discussed on the topic, "Online Learning and Teaching durin COVID-19 Period."
On the third day Prof. Ratna Bandyopadhyay, Emeritus Fellow 2017-2019 Department of Library & Information Science, University of Calcutta, delivered lecture on the topic,"Library Services for the Visually Impaired (V.I.) Users with emphasis on the Pandemic Scenario."
On the fourth Day Prof. Shilpi Verma, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, BBUL Lucknow, Talked in detail on the topic, "Libraries as a Social Hub: Reaching Out to All."
On the Fifth Day Dr. Nabi Hasan, Librarian, IIT Delhi delivered a lecture on the topic,"Maximising Visibility of Research Output"

43rd General Orientation Course (From 11-09-2019 to 01-10- 2019) was organized by Department of Library and Information Science in collaboration with UGC HRDC, University of Jammu.
The program was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. M.M. Goel of Kurukshetra who worked as Vice-Chancellor / Director/Pro Vice Chancellor/Dean/Chairperson in a university system and Guest of Honour, Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies in the presence of staff of the university and participants of the course. Around thirty five college and university teachers and assistant librarians attended the General Orientation Course.

National Librarians’ Day is celebrated in the Department of Library & Information Science, University of Jammu every year in the month of August to mark the birth anniversary of S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Library Science in India.

Department is also providing Job related information for helping the students in their recruitment through social media (Departmental Blog & WhatsApp Group).

Since 2010-11 one year Gap in between B.Lib.I.Sc and M.Lib.I.Sc. has been removed.
Students of M.Lib.I,Sc. are provided with one month Internship since 2013-14.
